Millions of Muslims across Saudi Arabia, including a large number of expatriate workers, celebrated Eid Al-Adha or the feast of sacrifice on Saturday by taking part in Eid prayers at mosques and open grounds, organizing various cultural programs and visiting friends and relatives.

Sheikh Saud Al-Shuraim, who led prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, urged Muslims to stand united under the banner of Islam. “Allah has blessed you today with two Eids; the weekly Eid of Juma and Eid Al-Adha,” he told the faithful who thronged the huge mosque complex.

He said the Haj pilgrimage emphasizes the importance of security and stability for the progress and prosperity of humanity. “Equality and justice are other key values that we learn from Haj,” he pointed out. He denounced the armed race in the world and said it would lead humanity to greater destruction.

Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman attended Eid prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque. Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Hudaifi, who led the prayer, emphasized the role of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha in strengthening the bond of Muslims.

“Today is the day of Haj Al-Akbar (the greatest Haj) as it witnesses a number of important rituals of the annual pilgrimage including the stoning of Jamrat Al-Aqaba and sacrificing animals,” he pointed out.

He said sacrificing animals is a great worship that the Almighty loves the most. Hajis as well as Muslims all over the world sacrifice animals on the Eid day remembering the great sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) who had offered to sacrifice his son Ismail on Allah’s order.

In Riyadh, Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, governor of the region, joined prayers with thousands of citizens and residents at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque. Sheikh Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh led the prayers.
