Teacher on a mission to spread Saudi culture
A Saudi teacher has crossed regional borders to reach the United States to start her own program of spreading the culture and traditions of Saudi society.
Bushar Abu Saleh, a teacher at Al-Jubail Intermediate School, has started implementing a program to spread Saudi culture among Americans. She launched her program a few days ago and chose to start with American schools.
“I coordinated with a scholarship student, Hawraa Saleh who was the mediating person between us and Reagan School in Oklahoma. We worked to spread Saudi culture and traditions and introduced them to the school community. We received positive comments and responses about this program,” she added.
“Some of the habits we communicated to this school are the Saudi dress such as the abaya. Hawraa wore the abaya to school, and explained how it is worn. They were also introduced to other traditional dresses and to the camel and Saudi Arabia, the desert nation which has now evolved into an advanced country. They were also introduced to Arabic coffee and dates,” she said.
The teacher aims to travel around the world with this program and implement it in various parts of the world to convey a beautiful image of Saudi society. The program will benefit from technology and social media websites for its promotion.
“During the Saudi National Day, we held a competition to design a greeting card in all languages, and received contributions from China, France, Eritrea, the United States and Angola,” she said.
Al-Jubail Intermediate School is the sponsor of the program.
