Fastest films to cross Rs 100 crore hurdle
Happy New Year – Shah Rukh Khan’s Diwali release Happy New Year seems to have joined the bandwagon of fastest 100 crore movies of Bollywood. According to a report on Koimoi.com, HNY collected approximately Rs 82.67 crore till early Saturday. And according to a Red Chillies press note, the film has managed to touch the coveted 100 crore mark over the weekend, grossing Rs 108.86 cr, with a break up of Rs. 104.10 cr in Hindi, Rs. 2.92 cr in Telugu and Rs. 1.84 cr in Tamil. These impressive statistics might get the film a place in the league of recent big releases like Bang Bang and Kick. Happy New Year is produced by SRK’s Red Chillies and directed by Farah Khan, starring an ensemble cast of Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shan.
Bang Bang – Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Bang Bang’ had created a huge hype before its release. The film that was promoted as an action packed masala entertainer got an amazing response at the box office on the first day itself, breaking many records. The film continues to do so and has now crossed the magical Rs 100 crore figure in less than five days. Directed by Siddharth Anand, ‘Bang Bang’ achieved this feat in the first half of the fifth day of its release, according to reports. Singham Returns – Ajay Devgn’s ‘Singham Returns’ has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark but that isn’t why it has made news. The fact that it touched the magical figure in just five days is what makes Ajay Devgn’s ‘Singham Returns’ special. Ajay reprised his popular character of police inspector Bajirao Singham in the sequel to Rohit Shetty’s 2011 popular film ‘Singham’. ‘Singham Returns’ released on the Independence Day and cashed in on the long weekend ahead. According to a report in Koimoi, ‘Singham Returns’ made more than Rs 50 crore in just the first two days.
Kick – The much awaited Salman Khan starrer ‘Kick’ struck gold at the box office and no one was surprised to know that. Although, Sallu bhai’s last release ‘Jai Ho’ turned out to be quite a shocker and didn’t mint enough money at the box office. But Salman Khan and his team including director-producer Sajid Nadiadwala, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda, Mithun Chakraborthy and Nawazuddin Siddiqui packed a punch at the cinema screens and managed to cross the Rs 100 crore hurdle. According to Koimoi, ‘Kick’ has so far made Rs 126.70 crore in just 5 days. ‘Kick’ that released just ahead of Eid has already touched the magical figure of Rs 100 crore that is touted to be the litmus test of films these days. While it continue to enjoy a good run at the box office, ‘Kick’ could not break the record of ‘Dhoom 3′ that has made the fastest Rs 100 crore so far.
Dhoom 3 – We expect nothing less than a bumper opening for an Aamir Khan film and the perfectionist actor and his team of ‘Dhoom 3′ got the same kind of response. Not only did ‘Dhoom 3′ starring Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Jackie Shroff and Katrina Kaif made Rs 100 crore but it has gone down in history as the fastest film to have done so. ‘Dhoom 3′ that released on Christmas last year in 2013 made Rs 100 crore in just three days! According to Koimoi, the total collections of ‘Dhoom 3′ were Rs 280.25 crores. It was the first time that Aamir Khan played the villain for the very successful film series. No other film has so far broken this record.
Chennai Express – If we are talking about fastest Rs 100 crore that films have made so far, we cannot rule out the Badshah of films – Shah Rukh Khan. King Khan’s last release ‘Chennai Express’ directed by Rohit Shetty and co-starring Deepika Padukone made Rs 100 crore in 3.5 days of its release. According to a report by Koimoi, ‘Chennai Express’ touched the golden figures of Rs 100 crore in a little more than three days. However, the film did not stop at just that and went ahead and made a grand total of Rs 226.70 crore at the box office as per Koimoi reports. Considering Shah Rukh Khan is a huge marketing magnet himself, the superstar waved his magic marketing wand over the audiences who helped him mint so much moolah at the box office so quickly.
Krrish 3 – While everyone loves Hrithik Roshan a lot, children especially love to see their favourite hero play superhero in the ‘Krrish’ series. ‘Krrish 3′ was loved by Hrithik fans so much that the film gobbled up Rs 100 crore in no time at all. In just four days, ‘Krrish 3′ crossed the Rs 100 crore hurdle. The film eventually grossed Rs 240.50 crore at the box office. Directed by Hrithik’s father Rakesh Roshan, the film also starred actor Vivek Oberoi in a negative role along with Kangana Ranaut and Priyanka Chopra.
Ek Tha Tiger – Salman Khan makes another entry in this list and this time it is for his 2012 film ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ starred Salman Khan along with his former flame Katrina Kaif. The film was special for all Salmna Khan fans who wanted to see him with his ex-love on screen. ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ created such a buzz at the box office that it made Rs 100 crore in just six days. The film however fell short of the magical Rs 200 crore figure and according to Koimoi ended up grossing Rs 198 crore at the box office.
Dabangg 2 – The year 2012 was definitely a good year for Salman Khan which translated into a treat for his fans. The much awaited sequel of his popular ‘Dabangg’ released and Chulbul Pandey did not disappoint this time as well. ‘Dabangg 2′ took the story of Chulbul Pandey further and starred Sonakshi Sinha, Prakash Raj, Arbaaz Khan and Vinod Khanna. According to a report in Koimoi, ‘Dabangg 2′ earned a total of Rs 158.50 crore at the box office. The songs of ‘Dabangg 2′ were also an instant hit with Kareena Kapoor dancing to ‘Fevicol Se’ with Salman. ‘Dabangg 2′ is also included in the list of films that have made Rs 100 crore the fastest, as it made that much money in just six days.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone came together on screen after their much hyped real life break-up in Ayan Mukhejree’s ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ in May 2013. The audience wanted to see Ranbir and Deepika together in a true blue love story and their wish was granted with this film. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ joined the biggies by earning Rs 100 crore in just 7 days! The film made a total of Rs 190 crore according to Koimoi reports. Deepika who already had Rs 100 crore films in her kitty like ‘Race 2′ added another one with this one.
