Hospitality sector to provide 300,000 jobs for young Saudis
The Ministry of Labor in coordination with a number of establishments, colleges and government colleges and institutes in the hospitality sector is providing around 300,000 jobs in various parts of the Kingdom to employ young men and women at a salary of SR5,000.
Chairman of the Hospitality Committee in the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce Abdulmunif Makki said there is coordination between the committee and government colleges and the Labor Ministry to define the number of graduates in the private sector and offer them job opportunities in various parts of the Kingdom.
He revealed that all relevant authorities in this project are trying to find better programs to train job seekers in this sector. He said the Human Resource Development Fund (Hadaf) offers material support to those who want jobs. Makki revealed that the committee is preparing a study in coordination with the Ministry of Labor that takes care of the registration of each applicant.
He said employees should pledge not to leave work until their contract has ended, saying the sector is challenged with the rising number of employees who abscond after securing jobs.
Makki estimated nationalization rates in the sector to stand at 25 percent, saying the average employment of women reached 5 percent. He said that there is a growing interest in employing women because of their high expertise in marketing products on social media websites.
The committee has begun implementing training programs to qualify young people to work in the hospitality sector including restaurants and hotels according to the nature of the work and their qualifications.
Executive director for Al-Masah hotels, Hani Abu Sabaa’, said nationalization rates reached 24 percent from the total number of those employed in administrative, sales and reception jobs, with salaries that could reach up to SR25,000.
He added that the rate of women employment in the hospitality sector stands at 2 percent.
The company introduces the applicant to the jobs and tasks prior to offering employment to the candidates, he explained.
