Madinah police arrest charlatan
Madinah Police have arrested a man in a hotel for claiming to have a conversation with Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Media spokesman for the Madinah Police Fahd Al-Ghannam said that the individual was referred to the police station by the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, and later transferred to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution.
The case came to light after a number of users of social networking sites posted a video of the individual who claimed to see the Prophet (peace be upon him) and talk to him.
Haia President Abdullatif bin Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh called for an investigation in the matter which revealed that the individual is a teacher at one of the Qur’an centers and was both a teacher and director of a school in Madinah for 20 years before he retired.
Dr. Masoud bin Bashir Al-Mohammadi, faculty member at the Higher Institute of Imams and Preachers in Taibah University, said the claims of the individual are invalid, and although there are several interpretations of hadiths regarding seeing the Prophet during sleep or while awake, such claims and myths are unacceptable and should not be embraced by anyone enlightened by the Qur’an and Sunnah.
Dr. Al-Mohammadi urged the Ministry of Education to closely monitor material taught by teachers, and the warned the Ministry of Haj to be wary of individuals preaching before pilgrims.
