A family of seven — including a couple and their five children — and two police officers died in a road accident in the holy city of Makkah on Saturday afternoon, a local online news site said. Three other people were injured.

In a report, Sabq.org quoted officials as saying all nine victims were killed when the vehicles they were on collided head on along the south Makkah coastal highway near Al Jebel station.

The family, said to be of Egyptian nationality, was on a Toyota Hilux pickup while the police officers were on a Honda car.

Responding Civil Defense personnel found three of the victims still alive and these were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment by Red Crescent ambulances, the report said.
