A gunman shot and wounded two policemen in Qatif on Tuesday, the police here said.

Eastern Province Police spokesperson Lt. Col. Ziad Al-Ruqaiti said the unknown assailant shot at the officers, who are members of an anti-drug squad, while they were on patrol in their vehicle near an agricultural area between the towns of Awamiya and Qudayh.

Al-Ruqaiti said that the wounded policemen were transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment, and that an investigation has been launched.

In a separate incident, an Arab expatriate was beaten and shot several times in the feet and robbed of his possessions by two unknown assailants.

The police said the attack on the man, who is in his thirties, took place on a farm called Al-Ramis in Awamiya village in Qatif, at about midday.

Al-Ruqaiti said the man was taken to a local hospital and an investigation has been launched.

“The victim claims he was threatened with weapons by two unknown men while he was at the farm in Awamiya, beaten and shot in the feet. He was then taken by his attackers to a neighboring residential area and his money and cell phone taken.”

Awamiya is a village situated in Qatif with a population of about 25,500 people. The village is bordered by the Al-Ramis farms to the east and other farms in the west and south.
