Demolition of historical buildings needs SCTA approval
Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, has directed authorities to refrain from demolishing any historical building without first seeking approval from the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA).
The crown prince also called on authorities to communicate with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities about any archaeological site needing to be maintained or restored.
The directive is in line with the royal decree which commits government ministries and agencies to maintain and preserve historical Islamic sites in addition to archaeological and heritage sites, and protect them from removal or demolition and natural causes.
Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the SCTA, expressed his appreciation to the crown prince for the directive.
