A local charity has set up an exhibition offering a wide range of children’s leisure and educational used books at discounted prices, with the proceeds going to help orphans.

Mawakeb Alajr (The Goodness Convoy) organized the initiative as part of a fair in Al-Khalidiya District in Jeddah. Visitors can also exchange their books. All the proceeds will go to the Charity Committee for the Care of Orphans.

The fair offers children comics, games, puzzles and even some serious stuff such as educational material, arts and crafts, and international school textbooks, which are expensive at retailers.

Abeer Abdul Aziz Noeser, co-founder of the event and responsible for the book sale, said the fair aims to help orphans and widows in Jeddah and other regions. “There are books for children of various ages, from reading techniques to short stories, which have been donated by organizations, individuals, charity associations, and schools,” she said.

Volunteers from schools and universities helped to set up the event. All the books have been sorted and those in good condition are sold at low prices.

The fair includes a bazaar selling secondhand goods such as clothing for children, men and women.

There will also be a section for branded goods, kitchen appliances, electronics and house accessories.

Abeer said the book sale would help promote a culture of reading among children.
