The Shoura Council will vote Monday on a proposal for a minimum wage for Saudi employees through proposed amendments in the pension scheme of the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI).

Head of the Human Resources Committee at the Shoura Council Mohammad Al-Naji said that Saudi employees who earn less than SR2,000 in the private sector will be enrolled in the pension scheme of GOSI.

“This proposal aims to preserve the Saudi employee’s rights through minimum wages and arrest fake Saudization figures. A high number of Saudi employees work in the private sector on salaries of less than SR2,000. The amendment will reflect positively on their earnings in the future, he said, adding that the minimum salary cannot be less than the financial aid given through “Hafiz”, the unemployment scheme.”

The proposal, which was submitted by Al-Naji, recommends amending several articles in the social insurance clauses to make the proposal binding. Al-Naji confirmed that the minimum wage will give a clear idea of the actual salaries of employees.
