The Cooperative Health Insurance Council (CHIC) has issued a decision to immediately stop the operations of five health insurance companies, and have prevented them from issuing or renewing insurance documents for six months, due to their violation of the health insurance system.

Secretary General for CHIC, Dr. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Sharif, said in a recent statement that its supervising field teams had recorded a number of violations by the companies that called for the cessation of their activities in order to protect their clients from becoming burdened by these illegal actions.

He pointed out that the council would not lift it’s ban until these companies have corrected their positions so as to abide by the rules and specifications that guarantee the high quality performance that the cooperative health insurance system is known for.

Al-Sharif said that the violations varied from declining to deliver health insurance cards, issuing insurance documents without completing the required documents, the presence of health insurance documents that violate the maximum benefit level, and which also violate the schedule of the updated cooperative health insurance stipulations.

Violations also included the absence of a guide booklet that should be distributed to the insured clients, which contains a schedule of benefits and the exemptions of the unified health insurance document. Some companies similarly engaged weak precautionary procedures to check additions to the national network.
