‘Media have to live up to society’s expectations’

The head of the Saudi Radio and Television Commission, Abdul Rahman Al-Hazza, has said that the media industry will have to live up to the high expectations of its audience in light of the impressive technological changes taking place on the news front.

Al-Hazza said that the current era of media development requires a new Saudi change that is proportional to the changing realities in the Arab media scene as a whole, and the rapid advances taking place in this industry.

“The Riyadh Media Forum (RMF) is a place where the various ideas of media experts could be put together to try and tackle this emerging issue. The forum should result in some solutions and positive results for matching the expectations of the Saudi audience,” Al-Hazza noted.

The two-day forum was opened on Friday night by Prince Abdullah bin Musaed, head of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare (GPYW) here in the capital, with the participation of several high ranking officials, major TV channels and media institutions.

According to Al-Hazza, the RMF seeks to have a clear vision of a new media directions that can meet the increasing expectations of media followers, readers and audiences. The forum is also a platform for people to listen to the views of media experts during seminars and workshops associated with this topic.

The head of the organizing committee, Sulaiman Al-Mutaiwi, addressed the opening ceremony, saying that such an event is needed in view of the rapid changes seen in the media industry. It needs to address the national interest of the Saudi public in terms of political issues, socioeconomic development and technology transfer.
