Health Ministry officials and doctors attend a conference on seasonal influenza in Riyadh on Sunday.

Acting Health Minister Adel Fakeih has urged health workers in the public and private sectors to help people take precautionary measures against infectious diseases.

The minister’s comments came during a teleconference at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Riyadh on Sunday entitled ‘Seasonal influenza Medical Conference’ which was attended by more than 250 doctors from the public and private sectors.

Speaking to a jam-packed audience, the minister pointed out that the conference is part of the ministry’s health awareness program aimed at combating seasonal and infectious diseases through proper and timely vaccination.

The Health Ministry launched a Kingdom-wide vaccination campaign against the seasonal flu last month. The vaccination is suitable for people of all age groups including health officials, pregnant women, patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, renal problems, heart and lung disease.

Thanking those who had responded to the call for vaccination, the minister said that it would help protect them from seasonal flu.

The flu shots are available in all government hospitals and some 2,000 primary health care centers for free. Health officials will also visit schools to vaccinate children in the institutions. The minister added that the ministry is carrying out a health awareness campaign aimed at educating the masses on the importance of such vaccination during the onset of winter.
