‘Nationalization’ drive
By : Abdullah Sayel
The Shoura Council suggested the establishment of an official firm called the ‘Saudization Mission’. This suggestion is justified by the slowness of the Saudization plans carried out by the Ministry of Labor.
I believe the Labor Ministry should be the happiest about this recommendation because any shortcomings in the future will be blamed on this ‘mission’.
It was the ministry that was taking the blame solely for the last 15 years. Labor officials, society and jobless Saudis can put the blame on something else.
There is another interesting fact about this proposed body. The Arabic name for the mission is the ‘Tawteen’. This word ‘Tawteen’ highlights a sense of local replacement; that is to have national occupancy of a certain space. More national sense is delivered as ‘Saudization’ must have lost its charm! For those interested in translation, you have every right to translate the name to ‘Nationalization Mission’.
