SABIC well positioned to lead World Plastics Council: CEO
Mosaed Al-Ohali, executive vice president SABIC Polymers, has been elected chairman of the newly established World Plastics Council (WPC), which has a membership of major players from the world plastics industry across Asia, the Middle East, North and South America, and Europe.
WPC was launched last year by the plastics industry to accelerate the cooperation and alignment at the international level and to deliver improved outcomes for the common benefit for society, consumers and the plastics industry.
Welcoming the WPC decision, Mohamed Al-Mady, SABIC Vice chairman and CEO, said that the appointment reflects SABIC’s strong position as a trusted leader in the plastics industry.
“SABIC is well positioned to lead the WPC as we clearly understand our, and the industry’s social responsibility obligations,” said the CEO.
” I look forward to the WPC engaging with global industry leaders and other concerned stakeholders to develop strategies to address the industry’s emerging global challenges of sustainability and environment,” he added.
In remarks after his appointment, Al-Ohali said, “I am really pleased with the establishment of the council and will work hard with the rest of my WPC colleagues to ensure its effective functioning to promote sustainability and the responsible use of plastics, and represent the industry before global stakeholders.”
Prior to his current position as the Polymers executive vice president, Al-Ohali was the executive vice president, SABIC Manufacturing.
He was earlier the chief operating officer of the SABIC Europe group.
He has also held various positions in SABIC as vice president, specialty products and vice president, Fertilizers.
The decision to launch the WPC as a voice for the global plastics industry was made in Dusseldorf, Germany, in October last year during a meeting initiated by PlasticsEurope and the American Chemistry Council (ACC) Plastics Division, bringing together some 50 industry leaders from all parts of the world, including China, Korea, Japan, India, Thailand, the Middle East, North and South America and Europe.
