Prince Faisal bin Khaled, governor of Asir and chairman of the Tourist Development Council in the region, will preside over the handing over of the Prince Sultan bin Salman award for Urban Heritage ceremony in Asir on Monday.

The award giving ceremony will be performed in the presence of Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), the founder and president of Heritage Foundation and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Prince Sultan bin Salman award for Urban Heritage, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Seif, deputy minister of Higher Education, and Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Daoud, president of King Khaled University.

The award will be given to students of the fifth session in a ceremony organized by the Heritage Foundation Charity in collaboration with the King Khaled University in Abha on Dec. 1, 2014, in the main hall at the King Khaled University in Abha.

The award ceremony will be held on the sidelines of the fourth National Architectural Heritage Forum, which opens on Monday in Asir and will last for four days.

The third exhibition of the College of Architecture and Planning students’ projects in Saudi universities, and the exhibition of the winning projects of Prince Sultan bin Salman Urban Heritage Award will also be held simultaneously with the award ceremony.

It is worthwhile to note that the award was launched by Prince Sultan bin Salman on Jan. 2, 2005 with the aim to educate the society about the concept of urban heritage, its preservation and development as well as to highlight the urban heritage of the Kingdom in the framework of the Islamic Arabic architectural heritage. He also wished to stimulate creativity in the preservation of urban heritage and shed light on the modern urban models with traditional dimensions.
