Jeddah to have 67,000 more houses
The northern and eastern parts of Jeddah will soon host new model housing projects. Executive Director of Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company (JDURC) Ibrahim Katbakhana said the company is currently building 67,000 units in the city.
Katbakhana said that the company agreed with the Jeddah municipality to develop the residential suburb project in Khalij Salman as part of an affordable housing scheme. The project aims to create a model residential suburb with full services and facilities that meet all the needs of different members of society on a 3 million square meter area. The suburb will have educational, religious, health, sport, and recreational facilities as well as public services.
The official added that the project comprises 1,250 residential buildings that have 25,000 housing units. “Fifty-two percent of the project’s land will be allocated for housing, 11 percent for malls, public services and facilities, while the remaining 37 percent will be allocated for roads, recreational venues, car parking lots and open areas,” he explained.
The construction of the first phase of the project is currently under way and will soon end with the establishment of 46 buildings.
JDURC is also working to develop the Wadi Al-Asla’ project on an area of 130 million square meters east of Jeddah. More than 42,000 apartments will be distributed over 13 housing units equipped with social and recreational services.
The new vision of the project is tempting as it provides open parks, gardens, nature reserves as well as educational, health and sports facilities. It focuses on a sustainable infrastructure with a system of services. The project will offer multiple investment opportunities and thousands of work opportunities for young people. It also includes a range of municipal services of parks and green spaces designed to be large enough to accommodate the expected number of residents.
