Historic Jeddah festival takes on a new identity

Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed, chaired a meeting of the Supreme Committee for the Historic Festival with representatives from the civil government and from the private sector at his office in Jeddah on Monday.

The historic festival, which promises a host of cultural, historical, literal and entertainment events namely cultural lectures, museums, cultural and literary competitions, will be launched on Jan. 15, 2015.

Prince Mishaal has given a new identity and a new theme to the event called “Bright Sun” for its depiction of the lives of the people of the region from the past until the present through plays and exhibitions.

Besides books and a presentation showcasing the life and history of the region with the entry of pilgrims over the centuries, there will also be still photographs of old industries, old houses, traditional decorations and calligraphy exhibitions.

The prince stressed on the new identity saying that the festival indicates a return of people’s interest in the region. He said that it would add great value to the region and its people and the concept of the bright sun would apply to every part of the festival.

He noted that last year’s festival achieved huge success and stressed the importance of teamwork between all the participating sectors to ensure the success of the festival this year.

Prince Mishaal supervised all the areas of the festival, checked the reports submitted by the parties and sub-committees for the final preparations.

The prince is taking a personal interest in the final arrangements before the festival’s launch and sent a welcome message to festival visitors.
