Riyadh police under a directive from Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Naif announced a posthumous reward of SR1.1 million to the family of slain police sergeant Mohamed Naif Al-Zineidi who sacrificed his life in a shootout on Sunday.

Maj. Gen. Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Hilal, head of the police department of the Riyadh region, personally conveyed the message of the Interior Ministry to the members of the bereaved family when he visited the house of the deceased soon after the funeral.

On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, Riyadh Gov. Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.

Majmah Gov. Prince Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin Faisal Al-Saud and senior government officials took part in the funeral prayers conducted at the Imam Turki bin Faisal Mosque in Zulfi in the city of Sudair.

Al-Zineidi died in Rawdah area in the Sudair district in the central province while he was trying to rescue three expatriate workers from the clutches of an unknown person who was holding the hostages at gunpoint. The unidentified person, who was holding a machine gun, was subsequently arrested.

Meanwhile, the funeral of Abdulaziz Ahmed Al-Asiri, who died in the Eastern city of Awamiya on Sunday after a gunman opened fire, also took place at the Furqan Jumma Mosque in Dammam on Monday.

Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif, Maj. Gen. Othman bin Nasser Al-Muhrij and senior dignitaries of the government were present to pay homage to Al-Asiri, who died in the line of duty.

According to Al-Muhrij, the deceased was shot by an unknown gunman while he was on security duty in Awamiya district in Qatif. The police are conducting an investigation to bring the killer to book.
