The United Arab Emirates armed forces said one of its military aircraft crashed during a joint training exercise with Egyptian armed forces, causing casualties, state-run news agency WAM reported Wednesday.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the plane crash, which left four joint crew members dead, according to the agency.

Egypt and the UAE conducted their Siham al-Haq – Arrows of Righteousness – joint military exercise on Dec. 11 with live ammunition.

The training took place in the UAE and was attended by top officials from both countries.

Such exercises are aimed at boosting strategic ties between the two countries and improve the operational readiness of the two forces.
