Gunmen on a motorbike killed a policeman and wounded another in a drive-by shooting in the Egyptian capital on Saturday, the interior ministry said.

“Armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on the police before fleeing,” ministry spokesman Hani Abdel Latif told AFP.

No one has claimed responsibility, but the Sinai-based Ansar Beit al-Maqdis militant group – which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) – has carried a string of similar attacks against police and army forces.

Scores of policemen and soldiers have been killed in bombings and shootings since the Egyptian military deposed Islamist President Mohammad Mursi in July 2013.
