Prince Mishaal bin Majed, governor of Jeddah, has approved the opening of the city’s first ever Red Sea Symposium of Ophthalmology (RSSO) in January 2015.

The symposium will be organized by the Saudi Ophthalmological Society with the participation of more than 300 ophthalmologists and eye specialists from various countries around the world to discuss the latest developments in the field of Ophthalmology.

Commenting on the importance of the seminar, Dr. Ali Mohamed Al Khairi, chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Symposium and a representative of the Saudi Society of Ophthalmology in the western region, said:

“The symposium will be held at a time when the Arab region is witnessing a significant increase in the incidence of blindness and visual disability in general, which has become a major concern and challenge for health institutions to find a scientific and therapeutic solution for the prevention of blindness.”

Al Khairi urged those interested in the areas of corneal transplants, cataracts, lens implants, correcting refractive errors and optics to attend the seminar. He said that the symposium was significant as it would attract ophthalmologists from across the world to discuss the important topics in the field.

It is noteworthy that the seminar will be held in cooperation with the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center, National Guard, Jeddah Eye Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology at King Abdulaziz University, Taif University, Umm Al-Qura University, Taibah University, Baha University, University of King Saud bin Abdulaziz for Health Sciences and the Society for Vision Rehabilitation Services and Visual Disabilities.
