Police launched an international manhunt after 28-year-old Nadine Aburas was found dead in a hotel room in the UK on New Year’s Eve, the UK’s Press Association reported.

A male U.S. citizen has been identified as a suspect in what police in Cardiff said they are treating as a murder.

Police say after he checked in at the Future Inn Hotel in Cardiff on Dec.30, the man was joined by Aburas around 9 p.m.

The 44-year-old suspect from New York then made his way to Heathrow airport on New Year’s Eve where he took a flight to Bahrain at 10:30 a.m. and is believed to now be in Tanzania, Detective Sergeant Paul Hurley said.

“We have been working closely with our counterparts in both NYPD and police officers in Tanzania,” he was quoted as saying.

He added that the suspect “is very resourceful and has access to funds, which may further assist his evasion from law enforcement agencies.”

The U.S. man, who police said had injuries on his face, had an “existing friendship” with Aburas.

While authorities have already conducted a post-mortem examination they are yet to confirm Aburas’s cause of death.

“I consider this man to be a dangerous individual and would advise that any knowledge of his location or sightings of him are reported immediately to the authorities – and he is not to be approached,” Hurley said.
