Egypt to hold parliamentary election starting March 22-23
Egypt’s upcoming parliamentary elections will be held in two phases starting on March 22-23, the country’s election committee announced Thursday.
The step would mark the end of Egypt’s transitional roadmap announced by the army after it toppled elected Islamist President Mohammed Mursi in 2013 following protests against his rule.
The Egyptian government hopes the step would deliver political and economic stability after four years of turmoil.
Egypt has been without a parliament since two years after its previous parliament, dominated by Islamists and held for just five months, was dissolved by the High Constitutional Court in June 2012.
