The Civil Defense has praised one of its officers for showing tremendous courage to drive a burning diesel truck away from the offices of a local company so that firefighters could deal with the blaze without loss of life or damage to property.

The courageous efforts of the officer, Ayed bin Safar Al-Harthy, took place at a transport company’s offices in Shumaisi, along the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway, said Naif Al-Sharif, the Civil Defense spokesman.

The Civil Defense’s control center received a call about a fire at petroleum tanks located in a parking area for the company’s buses and trucks in Shumaisi.

Al-Harthy said firefighters were dispatched to the site, and on arrival found two tanks containing diesel on fire. The fire had spread to a diesel truck, which had been responsible for filling storage tanks, and another smaller truck.

Al-Sharif highlighted the bravery of Al-Harthy, who drove the burning truck away from the other diesel tanks, preventing the fire from spreading, and allowing teams to take control without any injuries or casualties. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident, he said.
