The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) belongs to the people and works to protect their interests, said the newly appointed head of the body, Abdulrahman Al-Sanad, here Monday.

Addressing staff members, Al-Sanad said that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has entrusted him with the task of serving the country and Islam.

He said King Salman is known for his commitment to the policies set out by the late King Abdul Aziz. The Haia remains an important pillar of the country’s religious structures, he said.

He said staff members have been doing their best to uphold moral values in the country by advising Muslims on the correct path to follow.

He praised the country’s leaders for protecting the assets of the nation. “People have welcomed the royal decree that has done a lot for them and addressed their needs.”

“I thank all those who previously held this office and served it with great diligence.” He said more effort is needed to ensure that the public understands the importance of the Haia’s mission.
