Border Guard foils smuggling attempts in Asir region
Border Guard patrols in Asir region have foiled several smuggling attempts in the southern borders during the first quarter of 2015.
These attempts included 3,200 illegal expats who were trying to infiltrate the Kingdom’s borders, the capture of 8,277 live weapons, 376 miscellaneous weapons, 158 guns, and the confiscation of 561 kg of hashish and 1,152 kg of tobacco and qat.
Commander of the Border Guards in Asir, Safer bin Ahmed Al-Ghamdi said that the Border Guard patrols work round the clock to monitor the land and sea borders ensuring they are secure from intruders who may threaten the Kingdom’s security.
Thanking the Border Guards for thwarting the various smuggling attempts, Al-Ghamdi confirmed the use of modern technology to keep the borders safe from smuggling operations.
Meanwhile, the Border Guards in Jazan seized 847 weapons, 78,079 rounds of ammunition, 238,035 narcotic pills, 187,513 kg of qat, 2,240 kg of hashish, 489 kg of foodstuffs, 7,135 kg of snuff, 3,453 pieces of fireworks, SR228,946 in cash, and 2,243 heads of livestock over a four-month period.
The Ministry of Interior also deported more than 700,000 foreigners for violating the work and residence laws and foiled over 290,000 attempts by infiltrators to cross into the Kingdom illegally, according to media reports.
