King receives flowery tribute
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has been honored in Yanbu with a portrait comprising 1.27 million flowers of various colors.
The portrait was conceived and arranged by engineers of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY) at the ninth Festival of Flowers and Gardens in the city. The event was held to mark the 40th anniversary of the RCJY.
Ala Nassif, chief executive officer of the royal commission, attended the opening session on Monday night. The RCJY currently holds the record for the largest carpet of flowers in the world.
He said the commission had delivered a unique form of entertainment for the residents of the industrial city, reflecting its commitment to beautify the city and highlight its architectural characteristics.
“It also contributes to raising environmental awareness by educating people about different plants and flowers,” Nassif said.
Saleh Al-Zahrani, chairman of the organizing committee, said 150 local companies participated in the construction of the model gardens for the 12-day festival.
He praised Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan, president of the RCJY, for organizing the event. The festival has become increasingly popular over the years, he said.
Visitors can find all their gardening requirements at the festival, and consult landscaping experts and agronomists. The event this year would include a special publication produced for the 40th anniversary, he said.
