Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras recently inaugurated the 24th park in the Al-Nuzha district under the Jeddah municipality’s program of giving a park to the residents of Jeddah every week.

Abu Ras said that the gardens and landscaping department at the municipality is continually working on giving parks to the residents of Jeddah with the aim of providing a healthy and fresh environment to the residents of Jeddah.

He said that in the coming months the municipality will launch more gardens which will help to increase the total green area. Last year, 74 gardens were established totaling almost 370,000 square meters. This contributed to taking the total green area in Jeddah to 17.7 million square meters.

Mohamed Qattan, director general of the gardens and landscaping committee in Jeddah, said that the gardens include a number of palm trees, shrubs and different types of trees with umbrellas and playgrounds for children, along with paths and walkways.

Qattan said that the ongoing development of Jeddah’s gardens is part of a program launched by Abu Ras in 2014. He said that the Jeddah municipality is currently working on the involvement of students and schools in the cultivation of flower gardens in order to explain to them their social responsibility, and to motivate them into maintaining parks and public property gardens as their own.
