Yemen crisis ‘may snowball’
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman met on Saturday with top representatives of different Gulf countries to tackle regional affairs and exchange views on security aspects.
The king received Bahraini Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani and Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khaled Al-Sabah at the Al-Ouja Palace in Diriyah, near Riyadh.
The Gulf officials arrived earlier on Saturday to Riyadh and they were received by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, and Defense Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Prince Mohammed bin Naif held a meeting with the high-ranking officials and discussed the last developments in the region, especially the security and political situation in Yemen.
The security situation in Yemen has been the focus of most of the security talks between Gulf representatives. The leaders warned that the Yemeni situation would have serious consequences for the entire region if it was not contained well in time.
The participants at the meeting stressed the need to hold a conference in Riyadh under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperation Council. All Yemeni political parties who are interested in maintaining the country’s security and stability should be invited to attend it, they said.
