Pakistani PM arriving tomorrow to discuss Yemen
Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif will arrive in the Kingdom on Thursday to meet Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and discuss the evolving situation in Yemen.
The visit assumes significance because it comes in the backdrop of Pakistan National Assembly’s resolution to stay neutral in the war against Houthis, despite Saudi Arabia’s request to join the coalition.
According to a senior Pakistani diplomat, “the objective of the prime minister’s visit is to express solidarity with the leadership and people of Saudi Arabia.”
Sharif will be accompanied by a delegation of top ranking civil and military officials, said the diplomat.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani government has welcomed the UN Security Council resolution on Yemen putting arms embargo against the Houthi militia. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, “We welcome the UN Security Council resolution, noting that it complies with Pakistan’s proposal to maintain the unity of Yemeni territory and defend the legitimate government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.”
