The Sri Lankan International School of Jeddah (SLISJ) recently held its annual Awards Day for the academic year 2014-15.

Acting Consul General of Sri Lanka, M.S.M Ansar was the chief guest at the event.

School Chairman Mohamed Ilyas dedicated the evening to the IGCSE toppers and expressed pride on behalf of the school on the outstanding IGCSE results and mentioned that it was the first time the school achieved eight A* grading.

The program began with the recitation of a few versus from the Holy Qur’an and its translation, followed by the singing of the school song.

Presenting the school’s annual report, Principal Basheer Risvi said that despite many challenges the school is facing, they were able to arrange the Awards Day productively. He thanked the teachers and parents for their cooperation and mentioned the several advancements and upgrades the school underwent in the previous year. Risvi commended the teachers and students for their brilliant achievements.

Highest scorers from each class were awarded certificates and vouchers for subject prizes and general proficiency, while students who won the year’s English Day competitions were also honored at the ceremony.

Special recognition was given to the IGCSE O/L and A/L batches for the academic year 2013/2014. Gold medals were awarded to Sarangi Pathirana, Ammar Ilyas and Adnan Niyas for achieving outstanding results at the IGCSE O/L Examinations for 2014.

The school also felicitated all current staff members for their valuable services.

Guest speaker, Dr. Sabrinath Prasad, assistant professor at the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Ibn Sina National College, emphasized the importance of education.

The acting consul general urged the students to stay united at all times and uphold the county’s values. He advised the students and teachers to keep up their excellence and praised the school management, parents and the community for their cooperation in running the school smoothly.

The ceremony came to an end with the head prefect, Ammar Ilyas, delivering the vote of thanks followed by the singing of the national anthem.
