French President Francois Hollande called Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to congratulate him on the appointment of two new crown princes, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

During the call, the two heads of state also discussed the relations between their two countries and regional and international developments.

On Wednesday, King Salman appointed his nephew, Prince Mohammad bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, as crown prince, and his son, Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, as deputy crown prince.

A round of appointments across the kingdom’s cabinet saw the promotion of ambassador to the U.S. Adel al-Jubeir – who is not a member of the royal family – as the new foreign minister.
