Global support for new leaders
Saudis all over the Kingdom, including civilian and military officers as well as ordinary citizens, pledged their allegiance to Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the new crown prince and deputy crown prince of Saudi Arabia respectively.
Saudis in foreign countries visited their embassies to express their allegiance to the new leadership.
Foreign heads of state including President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi of Egypt, Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan, King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain and Yemeni President Abed Rubbo Mansour Hadi congratulated Crown Prince Mohammed, deputy premier and minister of interior, and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, second deputy premier and defense minister.
The White House hailed the strength of the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the US.
In his daily press briefing, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said: “Saudi Arabia is a friend of the US and a major country in the region.”
He explained that his country is keen to strengthen close and productive relations with Saudi Arabia, in addition to working for the benefit of the two countries.
“We are confident that the relationship between the US and Saudi Arabia will remain strong.”
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, accompanied by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, visited Riyadh on Thursday to congratulate the new crown prince and the deputy crown prince.
Qatari Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani, accompanied by Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani, prime minister and interior minister, also visited the capital to congratulate the new leaders.
