The Jeddah Municipality seized 24 trucks and a number of containers for trying to transport unlicensed clothes and other goods from 11 areas near Petromin where the items were illegally stored.

Hassan Ghoneim, director of the municipality’s university branch, said a number of storage facilities in the area are functioning without licenses and are thus illegal.

The municipality imposed fines on people running illegal storage business and keeping unlicensed goods, including clothes, he said.

Ghoneim said the illegal storage facilities are a nuisance for residents and that they are responsible for unhealthy conditions.

He appealed to the public to complain about such violations in their neighborhoods and help secure the areas from unhealthy conditions and curb violation of labor law.

“Its a duty of every citizen to follow the law and help the authorities in implementing it. They should complain if they see any such activity. The municipality strives to regulate facilities to avoid incidents like fire. Big trucks and containers create a traffic problem in the streets. Hence, action was taken to enable smooth flow of vehicular traffic,” he added.
