Rules on illegal Yemenis soon

Thousands of Yemeni citizens who have problems with their residence permits rushed to Passport Department offices across the Kingdom to correct their situations following a royal order to grant them concessions.

The Yemenis were told to wait until detailed instructions on how to handle their cases is provided to passport offices.

Passport Department chief Maj. Gen. Sulaiman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Yahya chaired a high-level meeting with top officials to outline procedures and set detailed measures to implement the royal directive.

He said that once these measures and procedures were developed and approved by the relevant authorities, they will be announced to the public and provided to passport offices across the country for implementation.

On Saturday, the royal court stated that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman directed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif to take necessary measures to correct the residence status of Yemenis in the Kingdom prior to April 9 and legalize their stay.

According to the statement, the king’s directive came in response to a request by the legitimate government of Yemen, led by President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, to support and alleviate the problems of Yemenis.

In Jeddah, Labor Office Director Sultan Al-Harbi said: “It is expected that the Ministry of Labor will hold a meeting to discuss new regulation to correct the status of Yemenis in the Kingdom.”

He said several Yemeni Umrah visitors and others who came to the Kingdom with a visitor’s visa cannot go back home due to troubles in their homeland. Therefore, their stay in the Kingdom must be legalized according to the new mechanism which will be announced within two days.
