The Madinah-based My Family Society (Osrati) has earmarked SR5 million for young men and women intending to marry in the first months of this year.

In addition to cash, there were also awards in kind, it said.

Osrati Chairman Abdul Bari Awadh Al-Thubaity said the subsides aimed to encourage marriage which is highly recommended in Islam. The society wants to help young people with the high cost of marriage.

“This is a new methodology the society follows which stems from its program named ‘Efaf and Sanad’ to help prospective husbands in bearing the cost of marriage,” he said.

He said that so far this year, the society has trained some 15,983 people through a number of programs including “Toward a Stable Family,” “Family Heartbeats” and “Building a Family,” in addition to a separate program to inform prospective husbands of marriage issues and married life.

“We have also trained 71 men and women to deal with family issues, and helped them to gain skills from the skills development project sponsored by King Khaled Foundation,” he said.

Al-Thubaity expressed thanks to all supporters, donors and charitable people who helped the society by furnishing a number of houses for new families and for extending financial assistance to the Efaf program for prospective husbands.
