Etihad says it will release further information about the diverted flight soon.

An Etihad jet bound for Abu Dhabi was this morning diverted to Dubai after an unspecified security alert, the airline said on Sunday.

Passengers have disembarked the plane, which took off from Cairo, and are due to be screened by airport security services, Etihad said.

“Passengers from Etihad Airways’ diverted flight EY650 have disembarked from the aircraft at Al Minhad Air Base in Dubai,” the airline said in a statement to Al Arabiya News.

“They will be security screened in the terminal before transferring by coach with their luggage to Abu Dhabi International Airport.

“Those with onward flight connections will be met at Abu Dhabi Airport and rebooked on the next available services.

“Flight EY650, an Airbus A321, was carrying 128 passengers and seven crew from Cairo to Abu Dhabi, when it was diverted for security reasons.

“Etihad Airways will release further information as soon as it is available.”
