A three-day Yemeni dialogue conference will begin in Riyadh on Sunday, according to Abdul Aziz al-Jabbari, president of the Consultative Authority for the Conference.

The Yemeni embassy in Saudi Arabia held Saturday a press conference announcing a series of measures taken ahead of the Yemen peace talks.

During the conference, Jabbari said the dialogue would result in effective decisions that would be obligatory for all parties to implement.

All Yemeni political groups and blocs, with the exception of the Houthi militias and deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh, will participate in the conference, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

“The Gulf initiative and the decisions of the U.N. Security Council will be the basis for the talks,” Jabbari said. He also said that the talks are aimed at supporting the legitimacy of state institutions as they are essential to “saving Yemen.”

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman took initiative to host the conference under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) following a request from Yemeni President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi.

The conference comes on the back of an attack on the penultimate day of a fragile humanitarian ceasefire between the Saudi-led Arab coalition and Houthi militias in Yemen. A Houthi shelling on the city of Taez killed 15 civilians and wounded 100 others.
