Citizen pays SR250,000 for the release of body from Jeddah hospital
A Saudi citizen has paid SR250,000 for the release of a body of a Sudanese woman who died at a private hospital in Jeddah, local media said.
The local media claimed that the body has been held at the hospital for the last two months as her daughter failed to pay SR250,000 in medical bills that covered her treatment, but the dead patient body was finally released on Friday and buried at Al-Asad graveyard in Jeddah.
Meanwhile, the daughter told local media that the hospital management asked her to sign documents on the payment of the said money as a precondition to the release the body but, however, she refused on the ground that she was living alone and her brother died over a year and a half ago.
Earlier, a hospital official claimed that they had provided all facilities to the Sudanese resident (the daughter) considering her family conditions and reduced the original bill by SR50,000 to encourage her to pay the due money but still she refused to pay that amount.
A few years ago, a private hospital in Jeddah was accused of holding a newborn baby hostage as its Turkish parents failed to pay SR181,000 in medical bills. Despite the parents’ sponsor guarantee to pay the bills, the hospital authorities reportedly refused to hand over the dead body of the triplet brother of the newborn for the same reason.
