The U.S. military said Monday the fall of Ramadi to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was “a setback” but vowed the Iraqi government backed by American air power would eventually seize back control of the western city.

“We’ve said all along that there are going to be ebbs and flows. This is a difficult, complex, bloody fight. And there’s going to be victories and setbacks. And this is a setback,” Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steven Warren told reporters.

But he added: “We will retake Ramadi.”
