Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman has honored the top performing government departments in the region at a ceremony here.

In his speech at the event, he said that efforts to improve services for citizens have been taking place since the reign of King Abdul Aziz “to boost social and economic development across the Kingdom.”

Prince Saud bin Abdul Rahman bin Nasser, Haj Minister Bandar Hajjar, Commerce and Industry Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nizar Madani attended the ceremony.

“The excellence award was instituted by the authorities to encourage various government departments and agencies to improve their performance and services, and meet the expectations of beneficiaries,” Prince Faisal told the gathering.

He said the contest has been upgraded to cover all departments and takes into consideration the progress achieved by various sectors.

He also urged officials to meet the needs of people with disabilities, including providing them proper jobs.

The Passport Department in Madinah won gold this year with the Commerce and Industry Ministry’s branch office receiving silver. The bronze medal went to the Civil Affairs Department.

In the quality category, the Haj Ministry’s branch office received gold, Madinah Islamic University silver, and the Civil Defense Department bronze. For project implementation and follow up, the Saudi Electricity Company won gold and the Education Department silver.
