Man held for junkyard fire

Jeddah Junk yard Fire

Police have arrested an Arab man, 23, in connection with Sunday’s huge fire that gutted part of the Briman junkyard, northeast of Jeddah.

The man allegedly set off the fire by using a welding machine, said Lt. Col. Aati Al-Qurashi, spokesman for Makkah police.

Police are still questioning the man to ascertain his role in preparation to hand him over to relevant authorities for action.

Meanwhile, the Jeddah municipality has started shifting the junkyard to another location south of the city with the support of other government agencies including Civil Defense and Traffic Police.
