Crown prince takes strong note of attack
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, has ordered the arrest of all expats involved in a vicious attack on a Saudi customer and his brothers at a Dammam shopping center.
The attackers armed with sticks destroyed the man’s car, press reports said on Thursday. The crown prince’s instructions to police came after a video clip of the violence went viral with many bloggers calling for strong action against the culprits. According to Al-Arabiya.net, the expats were Yemenis. “Police detained 16 people involved in the brawl and handed them over to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution,” the news channel said, adding that the fighting started after the citizen returned the item purchased from the shop. “The Yemeni worker at the shop refused to accept the item saying it was not purchased from there. The verbal argument between the two then turned into a violent fighting,” the channel said. Saudi bloggers said the Yemeni salesman was wrong when he refused to accept the good. “The Yemenis should know that Saudis are fighting for Yemen’s cause and have sent relief supplies worth millions to their country,” said one blogger. Another Saudi blogger said the incident should not be exaggerated to create hatred between the two Muslim communities. |
