Downpour causes flooding in Jazan
The torrential downpour in Jazan has led to the flooding of many streets.
Civil Defense personnel were busy addressing the issue by pumping water off the streets. The rains resulted in electrical blackouts in many parts, which in turn led to criticism from citizens and residents, especially after the delayed arrival of maintenance teams from the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). Civil Defense teams removed the collapsed ceiling of a hangar atop a Health Affairs Department building in Jazan, after citizens complained of its threatening position. The Civil Defense said in a statement that rains fell on the region following atmospheric fluctuations. The weather conditions affected more than 12 governorates and caused rainwater to flow through more than seven valleys. Maj. Yahya Abdullah Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Civil Defense, said the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) had warned the Civil Defense Department of the expected rainfall, and thus all centers and departments were prepared to face any implications. Security patrols were dispatched to the valleys to report any incidents. |
