‘High hourly wages for manual work could attract citizens’

Riyadh Construction

The private sector has suggested a system that depends on an hourly wage to complement contracts. The proposal stipulates agreements should be based on the number of daily working hours and pay for vocational work should be increased by 60 percent to attract national staff to this kind of work.

This procedure aims to decrease the number of Saudi nationals working in offices and administrative jobs.

Member of the national contracting committee in the Council of Saudi Chambers Hani Mufti said this proposal has been put forward because of its flexibility. This step aims to surpass signed contracts and raise productivity.

He said this step would attract Saudi employees to vocational jobs because of the high wages in comparison with wages allocated for administrative jobs. He added that nationalizing jobs shouldn’t be compulsory, but rather added slowly and encouragingly to attract national cadres.

The Ministry of Labor is looking into the proposal.
