NWC to be sued by Jeddawis

National Water company

With no end in sight to the prevailing water crisis in six areas of south Jeddah and Ramadan fast approaching, the residents have now decided to move court against the National Water Company (NWC).

The residents of all the affected areas have joined forces against the NWC after their repeated pleas and complaints fell on deaf ears, a local publication has reported, adding that the six areas have not been supplied water for over 15 days. The affected areas include the Prince Fawaz neighborhood, Al-Shafa district and Prince Abdul Majid model project.

Residents say the company has failed to deliver on its promise of addressing the issue, and has neither given any reasons nor apologized.

Some of the residents said that according to an assurance by the company, water was to be pumped at 8 a.m. on Saturdays in some of the areas, but that did not happen. The residents were quoted as saying that the situation has forced them to buy water at higher prices from Al-Ashyab station, which is always crowded.

Citizens have appealed to Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed to look into the matter. “We have lost trust in the people working for the company,” a resident said. The CEO of the water company reportedly said that he was on a vacation.
