65,000 Yemenis correct their status
Approximately 65,000 Yemenis have corrected their status in the Kingdom through the Yemeni Consulate in Jeddah.
The announcement was made during a visit to the Yemeni correction centers in the Western Province by Maj. Gen. Jamaan Al-Ghamdi, assistant director general for security affairs. On a directive from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, 46 correction centers were set up in all parts of the Kingdom to help illegal Yemenis, who were in the Kingdom before April 9, obtain legal papers to stay and work in the country legally. Al-Ghamdi said the royal decree had given a good opportunity for illegal Yemeni overstayers to legalize their residency status. According to the official, the Shumaisi center in Jeddah has issued a total of 9,771 cards since the beginning of the campaign with on average 796 cards per day. The correction operation will continue until July 7 and will also include prisoners and those with criminal records. According to the correction procedures, each Yemeni will be issued a six-month renewable “visitor’s card” that will allow its holder to work in the private sector. Yemeni Vice President Khaled Bahah formally opened a special center at the Yemeni Consulate in Jeddah to expedite the processing of documents required for status correction. The center has been working for more than 15 hours a day to serve illegal Yemenis as quickly as possible in order to meet the amnesty deadline. Ali Al-Ayyashi, consul general of Yemen in Jeddah, said diplomats also work outside their regular office hours daily to process the documents of applicants. |
