In an attempt to stop local companies from collecting or using petrol derivatives in a manner that violates rules and regulations, a government committee has recommended that they should purchase fuel only through Aramco.

A source has been quoted by local media as saying that the committee made four recommendations to tackle smuggling of oil derivatives out of the Kingdom.

The committee comprises members from the Ministries of Interior, Commerce and Industry and Municipal and Rural Affairs. It also stressed the importance of coordinating with the Ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Rsources and Commerce and Industry and other relevant bodies to organize inspections of factories and sites that are suspected of collecting or using petrol derivatives while violating the rules.

The recommendations also stipulate that each body punish violators of the system, while some violations are to be referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution to force them to pay the value of the products they collected or used in industry.

Companies will be prevented from buying kerosene or diesel from the local market unless they do so through Aramco, while the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Aramco put rules that prevent petrol stations and transporters from selling fuel without permission.

The source said that the committee discussed the sale of petroleum products allocated for local use from Aramco, including the prohibition of dealing with petrol derivative and using them for other purposes before obtaining a written agreement from Aramco and paying the price difference.

The source said that the committee detected a number of cases of adulteration of diesel at various locations in the Kingdom.
