The Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) interior ministers have vowed to take decisive action against those trying to undermine the region’s security and social fabric.

At an extraordinary meeting held in Kuwait City, the ministers condemned the recent bombing of the Imam Al-Sadeq Mosque in Kuwait.

They expressed their condolences to Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, emir of Kuwait, and the families of the martyrs, a local publication reported.

Kuwait’s Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said that the meeting highlighted the imminent danger facing the region.

“Gulf states are aware of the conspiracies, sedition and terrorist acts being planned against them, which need to be tackled in a decisive, forceful, prepared and coordinated manner,” he told Kuwait News Agency after the talks.

“There is a need to shield our (Gulf) society from deviant and extremist ideologies which target our youth,” he said.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, led the Saudi delegation.

In a statement, he congratulated Kuwait on revealing the circumstances of the terrorist bombing.

Prince Naif said Kuwait’s security was important for Saudi Arabia, and that the Kingdom would assist its neighbor to tackle terrorist groups.

The Kuwaiti leader held a suhoor banquet in honor of Prince Naif, attended by several officials.

Prince Naif later left for Jeddah and was met at King Abdulaziz International Airport by Prince Turki bin Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdul Aziz, and several officials.

The GCC ministers “underscored the importance of coordination and cooperation in all measures and steps in confronting this serious epidemic… which is a threat to the security and stability of the GCC states,” said a statement issued after the night meeting.

The statement called the attacks “criminal acts not linked with Islam and its values, which renounce violence and the killing of innocents”.

It said: “Terrorist attacks that targeted places of worship aim at sowing dissent, promoting divisions, undermining security and terrorising and killing innocent people”.
